With a background in jazz and classical music, Alissa Brody has performed as a pianist, flutist, and conductor in a variety of settings, including as a flutist with the Bloomington (Indiana) Symphony Orchestra, the Genesee Valley Orchestra, and the Minnesota Symphonic Winds, as a freelance pianist in jazz trios, and as an accompanist for a large musical theatre studio and the United Girls Choir of Connecticut. An educator and conductor, Alissa served seven years as a band director in Connecticut and Minnesota public schools and as a guest conductor for the University of Wisconsin-Madison Summer Music Clinic in 2015. In 2019, she participated in the International Conducting Institute in New York City.

 

Alissa has always been a dedicated music educator and multi-instrumentalist. Her love of instruments first led her to pursue a music degree at Luther College, focusing on piano performance as well as instrumental and vocal music education. During those years she also developed a great interest in conducting. Alissa later earned her master's degree in music theory from the University of Minnesota-Minneapolis while remaining active as a jazz pianist. She performed and recorded with the U of M jazz ensembles and collaborated with local jazz vocalists.

Alissa served as a career advisor in the Institute for Music Leadership at the Eastman School of Music before moving to Louisville, KY in 2017. She has held positions as Artistic Coordinator and Assistant to the Music Director with the Louisville Orchestra and as Communications Manager with the Louisville Academy of Music. In addition to working as a recruitment and enrollment specialist at Indiana University Bloomington, Alissa also served as a Camp Coordinator for Stages Bloomington. More recently, she assisted with stage management for LO Music Director Teddy Abrams' sets at Forecastle.
